Hemerdon House entrance from drive

From Exeter
Take the A38 towards Plymouth. After about 30 minutes, just past an exit signposted to Smithaleigh, you will see a bridge spanning the road, followed shortly by a second bridge. You need to take an unsignposted exit immediately after the second bridge. It is a hairpin bend so slow right down.

After this, take the next left turn. This will put you on the road to Sparkwell. Continue straight, following signs to Sparkwell. You will reach a sharply angled T-junction, but to all intents and purposes you are driving straight on. At the crossroads turn left towards Hemerdon.

Soon after passing a house on the left, you will see the roof of Hemerdon House’s Lodge appear above the left bank, and you will shortly need to turn sharp left – practically a U-turn – across a cattle grid, and past the Lodge. You are now on the drive, which you follow to the house.
